Massapequa Family Expands by Four Paws! Massapequa Pets

Last month, our family became the proud foster family (with intent to adopt in January) of a rescued now almost 15 week old Shiba Inu Mixed puppy.  It has been a while since we had a dog in the house, as life with four kids, three babies at once was more than enough to handle without a four legged baby who required just as much attention from Mommy as the two legged babies!  As the kids have been begging for some time now, and Joseph was very afraid of dogs from an experience last year with two big dogs, we had been contemplating if we could do it for months.  When we found “Ethan” at the Happy Tails Dog Rescue event at Petco in Lake Grove and Joseph asked if he could sit with him, we KNEW we found our furrever four legged boy. We are now part of the Massapequa Pets Families! How exciting!

Joseph, who was TERRIBLY afraid of every other dog he encountered, asked to sit with "Ethan" when we visited the Happy Tails Dog Rescue Event!

Within an hour or two, “Ethan” was ours. But the kids didn’t like his name, and his previous foster mother said that that was the name recently given to him since his rescue, we decided to change it. The big Yankee fans that we are decided as a family that “Ethan” would be changed to “D.J” – Donnie Jeter for Don Mattingly (Donnie baseball) and Derek Jeter. D.J. loved the ride to his new home and his first night with his new family was awesome!

D.J’s mom is a Shiba Inu and his dad is unknown. After the last month, I am thinking D.J. is part beagle, and he is just such a good dog! D.J. and the kids are so in love with each other. They really care about him and look forward to when they can all play outside. He is out with my husband now getting his third set of shots (Happy Tails takes care of all his care until and including his neutering), and we’re hoping he can go out and run in the yard with him.

My 18 month old niece LOVES D.J. She calls him “DooDoo” and loves to follow him around. She hugs him and kisses him and they chase each other. D.J. is so good with her!

We are all so excited to have D.J. part of our family and are looking forward to him growing up with the kids. And I’m excited to be working on some upcoming puppy/dog reviews for you to enjoy as well!
