Applebees NEW Wood Fired Menu: Review and #Giveaway

Applebee’s recently announced its new American-made, wood-fired grills as the centerpiece of nearly 2,000 U.S. locations and Massapequa Mom and Dad recently followed the enticing aroma of American Oak smoke into our local Applebee’s to try some new Hand-Cut, Wood Fired Grill items.  See more about our review and enter to win an Applebee’s Dinner for Two gift certificate. The certificate is only valid at Applebee’s locations owned by Doherty Enterprises on Long Island (see below for details)

The restaurant is introducing hand-cut wood fired offerings including USDA Choice Top Sirloin Steaks and Bone-in Pork Chops – completely unique and new menu items for Applebee’s – to its revamped menu highlighting the elevated quality, flavor and freshness of its dishes.

The new certified USDA Choice Hand-Cut Wood Fired Steaks and Bone-In Pork Chops are hand-cut by trained meat cutters through a comprehensive process to ensure the highest quality, freshness and optimal thickness. The restaurants have renovated kitchens, revamped menus and selected these trained chefs to be the official in-house Meat Cutters where they start with a whole sirloin or bone-in pork rack, evaluate and then cut each perfect steak or chop with their American-made knife exclusively designed for Applebee’s meat cutters.

Starting last week, Applebees launched new menu entrees. salads, appetizers and side dishes.  We visited the Farmingdale Applebees at Airport Plaza, and Victor, one of the managers, was excited to announce that he had gone just the day before with the Applebees CEO and some of  his colleagues to The New York Stock Exchange as they celebrated this news and rang the NYSE Opening Bell.

Among the new entrees, you can enjoy

  • 8 oz. and 6 oz. Hand-cut USDA Choice Top Sirloin Steaks
  • Hand-cut Bone-in Pork Chops with Honey Apple Chutney (my new favorite meal!)
  • Cedar-grilled Salmon with Maple Mustard Glaze
  • Grilled chicken breast

Additionally, meats and vegetables prepared on the new Wood Fired Grills will be featured in many other guest favorites – from salads to appetizers – adding the right amount of mild smokiness to each bite.

Paul and I shared an appetizer – the new Cheeseburger Egg Rolls looked really appetizing, and they were!  Made with ground beef, cheddar, and onion; served with pickles and a signature sauce, we enjoyed the appetizer.  I actually loved the kick the pickles had, too!

My husband ordered the 8 ounce Hand-cut USDA Choice Top Sirloin Steak with the NEW Maple Pecan Mashed Sweet Potatoes and NEW Fire Grilled Veggies.  The steak was pretty darn good, but I have to rant and rave over the sides!  Holy cow, I could have made a meal with the potatoes and veggies alone!  The veggies were the best grilled veggies I have had in a long time, and I will never again visit Applebees without ordering those!  The sweet potatoes were amazing as well, and my husband had to stop me from eating his whole order – that’s how good they were!  DELICIOUS!

I ordered the NEW Bone-in Pork Chop with Honey Apple Chutney.  This was completely and absolutely out of this world!  I love this meal and highly recommend you trying this!  I ordered it with the NEW Garlicky Green Beans and Garlic Mashed Potatoes.  I have to say Applebees has completely impressed me with their vegetables.  I love green beans although I usually only enjoy them made at home, but Applebees has definitely made me a fan!

We finished off our meal with dessert.  We shared the NEW Cracker Jack Banana Cheesecake.  Yes, you read that right.  Cracker Jacks.  Banana.  Cheesecake: Bananas foster sauce, Cracker Jack® popcorn & peanuts.  I cannot repeat it enough how good that was.  THAT. GOOD.

Actually, there are so many delicious new items on the menu, the next time we visit I am going to have a hard time picking what to order!
