#4. Gatlinburg, TN, Family Vacation #travelblogger

The Great Smoky Mountains are gorgeous.  The Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area in Tennessee is one amazing place to visit. The area is absolutely beautiful. My children, from my then 5 year old to my 13 year old, loved the entire trip. My husband and I, as well as my mother-in-law, who traveled with us, found this to be an amazing vacation. I highly recommend every family take a trip to the Smoky Mountains, and we certainly have plans to return.

Last year, I posted about our trip in detail.  Highlighting some of our favorite things about our Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge vacation to the Great Smoky Mountains:

  • The Smoky Mountains are a MUST SEE.  In the mornings, the smoke coming of of them is breathtaking, and all day long they are just as amazing. We truly have such a beautiful country and I am in awe every time I think about all that the United States of America has.
  • Cade’s Cove is one of my favorite places in the world to visit.  Watching my kids skip rocks in one of the creeks in Cade’s Cove, will forever remain one of my favorite mommy memories.  And the BEST part is that it did not cost a thing and was PRICELESS.
  • We enjoyed Dollywood, and I highly recommend visiting the Dolly Parton owned amusement park in your trip to the Smoky Mountains.  The rides were awesome, the shows were perfect, and the Dolly museum was much talked about in our house!  My kids will still hum Dolly songs almost a year later!
  • We had a lot of fun with Ripley’s!  The Smoky Mountains region is home to 8 Ripley’s Attractions.  Great things to do with the kids and fun to be had by all!  I have never been to a more impressive aquarium than the one in Pigeon Forge by Ripley’s!
  • Wonderworks is a great day trip while in Gatlinburg!  We spend a rainy day in Wonderworks, but even with a week of perfect weather it is a great adventure for the family!  This “upside down laboratory” is the setting for a fun interactive indoor amusement center.
  • The Island is one of the newest up and coming areas of the Smoky Mountains.  THE ISLAND has so much to offer to offer: it is a new shopping and entertainment complex with more than sixty retail and specialty shops, a number of popular restaurants and eateries, rides and games, dancing fountains, live music, attractions and much more.  Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen is DELICIOUS!
  • Once again, we enjoyed using our timeshare and staying at a Wyndham Vacation Resort.  We stayed at Wyndham Smoky Mountains in Sevierville and were impressed as usual.  The outdoor pool up in the mountains was AWESOME!  We loved watching the fireworks on the Fourth of July all through the mountains while swimming with the kids!

I can’t say enough good things about Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and The Smoky Mountains.  We were anticipating a nice family trip, but we didn’t anticipate a FANTASTIC one.  And that is what we had.
